Paolo Fresu interpreta David Bowie. E già questo sarebbe sufficiente a “fare notizia”. Che lo faccia in compagnia di un cast stellare con Petra Magoni, Filippo Vignato, Francesco Diodati,
Francesco Ponticelli, Christian Meyer: è una notizia da “prima pagina”! «Appena mi è stato proposto questo progetto (dal Comune di Monsummano Terme dove nel 1969 Bowie fece, da perfetto sconosciuto, la sua prima apparizione italiana in pubblico) – dichiara Paolo Fresu – mi sono sentito onorato ed emozionato. Ho deciso di mettere insieme una band unica, creata appositamente, con grandi musicisti eclettici e provenienti da esperienze diverse, anche lontane dal jazz. Credo che questo sia un grande valore. Avvicinarsi alla musica di David Bowie è una grande emozione e anche una straordinaria opportunità per tutti noi». Fresu e soci hanno messo le mani su una trentina di pezzi, tra i quali “Life on Mars” e “This Is Not America”, ed ogni membro della band ha dato il proprio contributo negli arrangiamenti, conferendo maggiore varietà e dinamicità al progetto. Petra Magoni, in quanto vocalist, gode della maggiore libertà, ma il concerto punta comunque sul gioco di squadra. Paolo Fresu, da sempre grande amico di Euritmica, conclude: «Bowie è un autore immortale che è sempre stato vicino al jazz. Noi cercheremo di avere il massimo rispetto per la sua arte ma anche di essere propositivi, gettando uno sguardo nuovo su queste canzoni».

He does it with a stellar cast: Petra Magoni, Filippo Vignato, Francesco Diodati, Francesco Ponticelli, Christian Meyer: a real “front page” news. «As soon as this project was proposed to me (by the Tuscan town of Monsummano Terme, where in 1969 Bowie made, as a perfect stranger, his first Italian public appearance) – says Paolo – I felt honored and excited. I decided to put together a unique band, created for this project, with great eclectic musicians coming from different experiences, even far from jazz. I think this is a great value. Approaching David Bowie’s music is a great emotion and also an extraordinary opportunity for all of us». Fresu & Co. sink their hands on about 30 pieces, including “Life on Mars” and “This Is Not America”. Each member of the band gave his own contribution in the arrangements, giving more variety and dynamism to the project. Petra Magoni, as vocalist, enjoys the greatest freedom, but the concert still focuses on teamwork. Returning to Fresu’s words: «Bowie is an immortal author who has always been close to jazz. We will try to have the utmost respect for his art but also to be proactive, casting a new look on these songs».

Ich beschloss, eine einzigartige, eigens zusammengestellte Band mit großartigen, eklektischen Musikern zusammenzustellen, die aus unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen kommen, auch weit weg vom Jazz. Ich denke, das ist ein großer Wert. Sich der Musik von David Bowie zu nähern, ist ein großes Gefühl und auch eine außergewöhnliche Gelegenheit für uns alle». Fresu und seine Bandmitglieder haben sich rund 30 Stücke vorgenommen, darunter “Life on Mars” und “This Is Not America”, und jedes Bandmitglied hat zu den Arrangements beigetragen, was dem Projekt Vielfalt und Dynamik verleiht. Petra Magoni genießt als Sängerin die größten Freiheiten, aber das Konzert setzt dennoch auf Teamwork. Paolo Fresu, der schon immer ein großer Freund von Euritmica war, fasst zusammen: «Bowie ist ein unsterblicher Autor, der dem Jazz schon immer nahe stand. Wir werden versuchen, den größten Respekt vor seiner Kunst zu haben, aber auch proaktiv zu sein und einen frischen Blick auf diese Songs zu werfen».
