Nel 2021 Vijay Iyer, assieme a Linda May Han Oh e Tyshawn Sorey, ha attraversato l’Europa eseguendo la musica del loro album in trio “Uneasy” (ECM Records), registrando quasi ovunque il tutto esaurito nei teatri e nei festival jazz a Berlino, Mannheim, Londra, Roma, Istanbul e Barcellona.
La band è stata accolta entusiasticamente sia dal pubblico sia dalla critica. London Jazz News ne ha parlato come di un “concerto straordinario”, The Blue Moment ha definito il gruppo “l’apice della sua arte” e il quotidiano tedesco Mannheimer Morgen è arrivato a descrivere il trio di Vijay “il nuovo standard dei trii con pianoforte”. Recensendo la performance di Vijay al Berlin Jazz Festival, il Tagesspiegel ha definito la visione musicale del pianista e l’interplay del trio “assolutamente impressionante”; per la FAZ il pianista “suona emotivamente e sensualmente, immaginando una combinazione di Fats Waller, Thelonious Monk e Keith Jarrett”; su Musica Jazz, che lo inserisce nella “cerchia dei semidei”, Vijay dichiara: «La musica è uno spazio per le emozioni, i sogni e l’immaginazione». In 2021 Vijay Iyer, together with Linda May Han Oh and Tyshawn Sorey, toured Europe performing music from their trio album ‘Uneasy’ (ECM Records), selling out almost everywhere in theatres and jazz festivals in Berlin, Mannheim, London, Rome, Istanbul and Barcelona.
The band has been enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike. London Jazz News described it as an ‘extraordinary concert’, The Blue Moment called the group ‘the pinnacle of their art’ and the German newspaper Mannheimer Morgen went so far as to describe Vijay’s trio as ‘the new standard of piano trios’. Reviewing Vijay’s performance at the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Tagesspiegel described the pianist’s musical vision and the trio’s interplay as ‘absolutely impressive’; for the FAZ, the pianist ‘plays emotionally and sensually, imagining a combination of Fats Waller, Thelonious Monk and Keith Jarrett’; in Musica Jazz, which places him in the ‘circle of demigods’, Vijay declared: «Music is a space for emotions, dreams and imagination».
