Baba Sissoko proviene da un’illustre dinastia di musicisti griot del Mali. È un virtuoso del tama (tamburi parlanti), del ngoni (liuto a 4 corde), del balafon (una specie di marimba) e del kalebas (percussioni). Mantiene viva la tradizione musicale malinese, ma ama anche suonare con musicisti di generi diversi come Habib Koité, Sting, Santana, Youssou N’Dour, Jovanotti, Salif Keita e Aka Moon. Con gli uomini di Mediterranean Blues si tuffa nell’emozionante mondo dell’afrobeat, del funk e della psichedelia.
Mediterranean Blues, è una chiara indicazione della voce potente e aspra di Baba Sissoko, del ritmo in levare come nelle note afroamericane (ri)partite dalla Giamaica, di un micidiale assist di armoniche a bocca che versa generose spezie blues su tutto l’incantevole flusso musicale.

Nik West is an American bassist, singer, and songwriter, and one of the most interesting and original musicians of recent years. She has toured, recorded, and performed with artists such as Prince, Quincy Jones, John Mayer, Carlos Santana, Larry Graham, Macy Gray, Esperanza Spalding, Orianthi, and Bootsy Collins, among many others.Her latest album is titled Moody.
Baba Sissoko comes from an illustrious dynasty of Malian griot musicians. He is a virtuoso of the tama (talking drums), the ngoni (a 4-string lute), the balafon (a type of marimba), and the calabash (percussion). He keeps the Malian musical tradition alive, while also enjoying collaborations with artists from different genres such as Habib Koité, Sting, Santana, Youssou N’Dour, Jovanotti, Salif Keita, and Aka Moon.
With the Mediterranean Blues ensemble, he dives into the exciting world of afrobeat, funk, and psychedelia.
Mediterranean Blues clearly reflects Baba Sissoko’s powerful and raw voice, the offbeat rhythm reminiscent of Afro-American music that (re)emerged from Jamaica, and the striking contribution of harmonicas that pour generous blues spices over the entire enchanting musical flow.
